“We will fight to release General Sarath Fonseka. They have taken revenge from him and he has lost everything. We will fight for his right to be free,” Karu Jayasuriya says at the press conference which was held at the Bodhi Ranasinghe Foundation.

Jayasuriya also stated that the civilized world agrees that former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka is a political prisoner.

“We are able to walk freely today with no fear of terror due to the efforts of General Sarath Fonseka and his team. All the people of this country agree that the eradication of terrorism was spearheaded by General Sarath Fonseka who was ably supported by the President and the Secretary of Defence. Why is the government taking revenge from him? Today he has lost his pension and they have erased him from history. He won't have even his last rights with the honours he deserves.February 8 marks two years since he was imprisoned and we will fight for his release.  Our hearts are with the General and we will continue to fight for his right to be a free man,” he said.
