While refusing to accept the Commission appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to investigate the Matale mass grave site, the JVP asked for an Independent Court of Inquiry to probe this issue.

“We have no faith in the presidential commission. As the case may linger for ages in a court, we are asking for an Independent Court of Inquiry to be appointed to probe the issue and expedite the investigations,” JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a news conference today.

He said the UNP was not the only party which was responsible for the incident.

“If UNP was the only party which was responsible for the massacre, the government will be more than happy to trap them. There is a reasonable doubt that the present government is also responsible for the incident due to the slow progress of the investigations that are being carried out by it,” he said.

Mr. Dissanayake said that they were only prepared to accept the final analysis of the archeological and judicial medical officials who investigated the incident.

“We will accept the final analysis of the archeological and judicial medical officials as they are specialists on the subject. We are not prepared to pay heed to the baseless remarks made by others,” he said.(YP and LSP)
