The Sri Lanka Medical Council has question the recognition of a degree which may be offered by a Russian affiliated medical college in Sri Lanka after the institution had published advertisements calling for applications for the post of lecturers.

In a public notice the Medical Council says the Medical Ordinance does not have any provisions to recognize a medical degree that may be awarded to those trained at the institution in Sri Lanka.

“The Sri Lanka Medical Council wishes to inform the public that there is no provision in the Medical Ordinance to recognize a medical degree that may be awarded to those trained at the institution in Sri Lanka,” the registrar of the Sri Lanka Medical Council said in the public notice.

The Sri Lankan institution has reportedly sought lecturers for the campus in Sri Lanka affiliated to a leading Russian medical academy acknowledged by the World Health Organization. (JN)
