War factor not relevant -Rajitha

A government minister today said gone were the days when the UPFA gained landslide victories because the war had ended.

Fisheries Minister Dr. Rajaitha Senaratne told a news conference that even in the future the UPFA would emerge victorious at elections only if there was tangible development.

“There is tangible development today with the construction of international airports, ports, and high ways and that is why the UPFA would triumph at the provincial council elections,” he said.

Also the Minister said the SLMC would work with the government and form an administration in the Eastern Provincial Council after the elections. He therefore said the SLMC was with the government although it was contesting separately. (Yohan Perera)
