Referring to Sri Lanka ethnic, religious and cultural diversity, visiting Singapore Foreign Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam today said that its human capital, potential and the multi-ethnic nature of the population could hold a tremendous dynamism.

Speaking to a group of journalists in Colombo, Mr. Shanmugam said that if harnessed correctly and put in a proper framework, the potential for Sri Lanka was limitless.” “If you talk of human capital potential in Sri Lanka, I think all the people would agree that it was extremely high. Your quality of people is world class. What is needed is an education system that would help them to achieve their potential. Whether you talk about the Sinhalese, whether you talk about Tamils, Burghers or Muslims, this country has an abundance of resources,” he said.

During his visit, Mr. Shanmugam also met and had a discussion with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister G. L.
