Video: More strikes to come

The Railways Professional Trade Union Alliance (RPTUA) said today that it would decide on an alternate date to launch a follow up to the 48-hour-strike that was concluded today.

It said that they had been forced to launch the strike because there had been no positive response on the part of the government following the discussions held during the past fifteen months with the authorities.

The alliance said that it had tried its best not to resort to strike action as it would inconvenience the public. “We took every effort to find solutions to our problems by discussing them with the President’s Secretary, Lalith Weeratunga on several occasions. Today too we were due to meet him for a discussion at 2.00 p.m.,” it said. However he wanted the alliance to come for discussions after ending the strike, which the alliance was forced to turn down, the representative for the alliance said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
