Minister Wimal Weerawansa today said that the United States backed resolution against Sri Lanka would ultimately lead to an Interim Administration in the North and East (N/E) Provinces under the supervision of the United Nations (UN).

“Forces have been piling up against the country since the handing over of the Darusman Report to the UN Secretary.  Had the authorities taken action in this regard we could have reduced mounting pressure on Sri Lanka from various forces. All these factions making allegations against the country are following a mutual agenda to create an interim administration for the North and East,” Minister Wimal Weerawansa said during a news conference held at the National Freedom Front (NFF) headquarters.

He said the allegations made by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and other factions on an alleged negative reconciliation in the country, could be used by international forces to aggravate their pressure on Sri Lanka.

Minister Weerawansa said it was fruitful for Sri Lanka to strengthen ties with ally countries like China to face other international forces. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
