President Mahinda Rajapaksa in an interview with Tamil Nadu TV station Thanthi TV said he would get more votes from Tamils in the North than the last time.

“I have a strong feeling that I might get more than last time. Last time I got some 18 % or 20% from the Tamils in the North, but this time I might get about 30 to 35 %,” the President said while expressing confidence that he would win the election easily.

He said the northern people especially the youngsters would always think about their future.

Speaking about the support from Tamils of Indian origin, the President expressed confidence that he would be able to get more votes this time.

“I am confident of retaining the support of the Tamils of Indian origin. It is natural that some politicians are going and coming, but the main man, CWC Leader Arumugam Thondamam is with me. I am sure to get more votes than the last time from upcountry Tamils,” the President said.
