Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga said today the government should uphold internationally accepted norms of democracy if it was to protect the country from international interference.

“Good governance underscored with democratic values were the best way to save Sir Lanka and its people from international pressure,” Ms. Kumaratunga told the media in response to a question whether she would intervene to help Sri Lanka overcome any strictures at this month’s UNHRC sessions in Geneva.
