The CID, continuing with evidence on the police killing at Grandpass, informed the Colombo Magistrate that according to the JMO report the victim had been handcuffed before being killed.

The CID said that in addition to the report on the post-mortem they had got a statement from the JMO confirming his findings. Colombo Additional Magistrate Prasan Amarasena ordered the prison authorities to produce the 10 suspected police officers, which included a sub inspector, for an identification parade in cover on November 11.

They were alleged to have murdered Pettah businessman Jayasuriyage Gunawardena Gamini Thushara and tried to frame him by placing a T56 assault rifle next to him after having labelled him as an underworld gangster.

The investigations were handed over to the CID by the Grandpass Police and the CID after conducting investigations had arrested the suspects. The magistrate gave an order that special protection be given to the suspects. (By T. Farook Thajudeen)
