Venerable Dambara Amila arrested by the CID

The Venerable Dambara Amila thero, an ally of Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka, has been taken in by the CID for questioning, JVP MP Vijitha Herath told Daily Mirror. He is being questioned over several complaints received against him, the police said.

The outspoken monk was arrested when he was in Thalangama after the CID received several complaints against him including from Horana and Kuliyapitiya for collecting money to send people abroad, police spokesman SSP I.M Karunaratne said.

Meanwhile MP Vijitha Herath told reporters the arrest of the monk was an act of revenge by the government.
