MDMK leader Vaiko and an advocate moved the Madras high court to challenge the President’s order, rejecting the clemency plea of the three men - an Indian and two Sri Lankans - headed for the hangman’s noose for assassinating former PM Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. “The three are not at all guilty and we all know how confessions are extorted by the police by extreme torture. We appeal to the Chief Justice of India to intervene and save the lives of the three innocents,” Vaiko told press persons on Monday.

Noted criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani is expected to argue on behalf of the three convicts. His juniors have already met the convicts in Vellore jail. (Source: Hindustan Times)
