The United National Party (UNP) today said Minister of Transport Kumara Welgama and Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena should follow the example set by South Korean Prime Minister and resign from their posts as the sectors they have been put in charge are in shambles.

UNP official spokesman and Member of Parliament Gayantha Karunatilleke told a news briefing that the two ministers should follow the South Korean Prime Minister who resigned his post following the capsizing of a passenger boat recently.

Mr. Karunatilleke said Minister Sirisena is responsible for the crippling of the health sector as a result of the trade union action launched by the nurses as he had done nothing to resolve the issue. He said the situation is same when it comes to the ministry of transport for failing to look into the technical needs of the railway service. These things would have been avoided had the ministers taken a serious note on the issues pertaining to the respective sectors they are in charge,” the UNP spokesman said.

He also said the government had begun to tear off the pages of Mahinda Chinthana one by one. He said the page which is about the safeguarding of Sri Lankan culture is being torn off by allowing Casinos while the page which talks of maintaining law and order was torn off with the attack on the UNP MPs who visited the Mattala airport and Magampura harbour and by failing to carryout a proper investigation on the incident.(Yohan Perera & Sanath Desmond)
