The UNP has started a dialogue with the JVP on an unofficial level to form a common platform against the government, MP Mangala Samaraweera said today.

Mr. Samaraweera told journalists today that he has had talks with the JVP on an unofficial level to get their support for the ‘Vipaksaye Virodaya’ a joint opposition front against the government. He explained that this common front is not an electoral alliance but just a common approach against the corruption, human rights violations and the ever increasing cost of living.

The UNP MP also said that the Tamil National Alliance TNA had responded positively to the idea of forming a common front and is expected to participate in the protest organised by the joint opposition in Panadura tomorrow.

TNA MP Suresh Premachnadran when contacted by the Daily Mirror confirmed that his party had decided to join the common opposition struggle and that they would participate in tomorrow’s protest.  (Yohan Perera)
