UNP clash: Twenty two arrested

Twenty two suspects had been arrested by the Matara police in connection with the shooting incident between two groups of UNP supporters in Matara yesterday.

15 suspects surrendered to the police this morning and while seven other had been arrested by the police.

Southern Provincial Councillor Gayan Sanjeewa, former Mayor of Matara Municipal Council Upul Nishantha, Southern Provincial Council member Nalin Abegunawardana, Nuski Ibbal, Devinuwara UNP organiser H. R. Wimalasiri, Opposition Leader of the Matara Local Council Lionel Kodikara were among the arrested.

At least seven people were injured during a clash between two factions of the main opposition UNP in Matara yesterday.
