The rift between the UNP and party member Palitha Range Bandara deepened today with UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka saying MP Bandara had not lodged a written complaint over the assault on him recently and Bandara saying a verbal complaint was lodged soon after the incident.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, speaking to reporters this morning said that the party had appointed a disciplinary committee headed by lawyer Asendra Siriwardane to conduct inquires into the assault on MP Palitha Range Bandara.
Mr. Attanayake said that action would be taken against the culprits based on this committee’s report, and he could not comment on anything other than that as a result. He was responding to a question by the media in this regard.
However when contacted by Daily Mirror online MP Bandara said that he could not lodge a written complaint as he was in hospital for several weeks following the assault and instead had made a verbal complaint.
Bandara, who was bedridden for several weeks after suffering head injuries following the assault just before the recent General Elections, said that even the UNP General Secretary had visited him in hospital and noted those who were involved in the attack.
Earlier Bandara threatened to leave the UNP or retire from politics if his party colleagues continue to neglect taking action against UNP member Shantha Abeysekara over his alleged involvement in assaulting Bandara. (Daily Mirror online)
