A meeting of the United National Front (UNF) alliance members headed by UNP leader Ranil Wickramasingha, held this evening to discuss the national list issue as well as the future of the alliance, ended in deadlock and is set to continue tomorrow.

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem, SLFP (M) wing leader Mangala Samaraweera and Democratic Peoples Front (DPF) national organizer Prabha Ganeshan also attended the meeting.

“The meeting was held to primarily discuss the issue concerning the allocation of national list slots to the UNF and the future of the alliance. A decision was not reached today so another meeting is scheduled to be held tomorrow,” DPF leader Mano Ganeshan told Daily Mirror online.

The DPF had earlier split from the UNF alliance after the UNP leader failed to include Mano Ganeshan in Parliament on the national list. The party is however now having talks with the UNF in an attempt to reach an amicable agreement.

SLFP (M) wing leader Mangala Samaraweera has meanwhile been invited to join the UNP and Mr. Samaraweera confirmed to Daily Mirror online that he had received the invitation from the UNP leader but refused to comment further. (Daily Mirror online)
