Underworld factions clashed in Kotahena: UPFA

While condemning the Kotahena shooting which killed a woman, the UPFA today said the shooting seems to be a result of a clash between two groups of underworld figures.

Addressing a news conference, UPFA former MP Dilan Perera alleged the underworld figures of UNP candidates had clashed because of the competition for preferential votes.

He requested President Maithripala Sirisena and Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya to give instructions to carry out an impartial investigation into the incident, to reveal the truth and to arrest those responsible.

Meanwhile, Mr. Perera rejected charges that the UPFA was igniting uprisings in the country for political gains.  “The President of the country is also our party Chairman. There is no need to rebel in the country when the President is our party chairman. We don’t want to put him in a difficult spot,” he said.
