The UN today said the UN Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Catharine Bragg, who will embark a visit to Sri Lanka from 19 to 21 January only to highlight the humanitarian needs and not related to work of the UN expert panel.

Ms. Bragg is set to visit the north of the country, where thousands have returned following the end of the conflict, as well as visit the worst flood-affected areas in the east.  UN and humanitarian partners will launch a flash appeal for emergency funds on 20 January.

“Well, what I can tell you is that Ms. Bragg’s visit it obviously a humanitarian visit.  It is not related to work of the Panel.  It is not.  And I think that’s quite clear,” Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Martin Nesirky told media.
