UN regrets pre-polls violence

The United Nations has expressed “regret” over the pre-election violence in Sri Lanka particularly after it was reported that a bus carrying supporters of General Sarath Fonseka came under gunfire yesterday killing one and injuring several others.


Martin Nesirky, spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General, asked about reports of violence during Sri Lanka’s electoral campaigning said that any violence in the course of such a campaign is regrettable, the UN website reported.
