UN panel counterproductive

The government said today that although the UN has made it very clear that the Expert Panel appointed by the UN Chief Ban Ki Moon is an advisory panel and not an investigative body, Sri Lanka still rejects it on the basis that it is counterproductive to the country.

External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris speaking to reporters a short while ago said this in response to moves by the UN Chief to appoint a three member panel in New York on Tuesday to advise him on accountability issues relating to Sri Lanka.

Minister Peiris added that Sri Lanka will not allow the UN Panel of Experts to enter the country to conduct any sort of investigations. (Daily Mirror online)
