UN inspects East

A special UN mission is expected to tour the east this week to examine the progress of the development projects in the Eastern Province which are funded by the European Commission through the UN organizations, sources said.

The mission will be headed by the UN Chief in Colombo Neil Buhne and they will leave for the East on Tuesday.

During their tour, the UN mission is expected to hold discussions with the Eastern Province Governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama, Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan and the Trincomalee Government Agent.

The mission will also inspect the resettlement progress in Thopur, Sumedhankarapura, Poonegar and Mavaichena and will visit the refugee camp at Kiliweddi on September 15. They will tour the Batticaloa area on September 16. (Daily Mirror online)
