The United Nations yesterday said that it is waiting for an official response from the Sri Lankan government to the allegations of war crimse, mentioned in the Expert Panel’s report.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky at the daily briefing in New York said, “We have obviously seen the public reaction that there has been.”
“We regard this as an initial reaction. We obviously have been listening to what has been said. The government has also been saying that it will provide a carefully considered response to the report.”

However he also said that the Sri Lankan government would “work with the United Nations in addressing the post-conflict challenges, which includes reconciliation as well as accountability.”

Nesirky also revealed that the Secretary-General intends to discuss about the question of Sri Lanka at the Security Council today.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said an international commission could only be set up with Sri Lanka's agreement or if ordered by an inter-government body.
