TNA Leader R Sampanthan said that the government action to ban several organizations and individuals on the basis of aiding in attempts to regroup the LTTE, has also been perceived by independent observers as a reaction to the events that took place at the recent UNHRC sessions in Geneva.

“It must be conceded that a government has the right to take steps as deemed necessary for good reason," Sampanthan said adding that “these actions of the Government have been seen as moves to thwart a free and transparent investigation of the matters contained in the resolution adopted at the Human Rights Council at Geneva.”

These remarks were made by the TNA Leader during the Chelvanayagam Memorial Lecture held at the Kathiresan Hall in Wellawatte on Saturday evening. (Lakna Paranamanna)
