A 31-year-old man has been charged with murdering his neighbour from Sri Lanka in north London. Ugarajan Swaminathan, a 34-year-old Tamil, died in hospital on Wednesday after a disturbance at his flat in Station Road, Harrow, the British media reported today.

Jastin Chandrakanthan, also of Station Road, will appear before magistrates in Hendon on Monday accused of murder.

A second man has been bailed in relation to the death and will appear at a police station at a future date.

It is believed that Mr Swaminathan was at his flat with friends and residents from nearby apartments when he was attacked in the early hours of the morning. He was found injured shortly after 2am and emergency assistance was called for.

Mr Swaminathan was taken to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, north London, but was pronounced dead at 12.20pm. The suspects left the flat after the assault and did not return, police said. The accused man was arrested near the scene later that day.
