At least three students and two others were injured following a clash between two groups in Katunayaka last night, police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody told Daily Mirror online.

He said the incident occurred as a result of a clash between students from the 1st year and the 3rd year of an Technical Institute in Katunayake.

“15 students had arrived at the Technical Institute and had assaulted another group of students. Three students and two outsiders sustained injuries during the clash and are receiving treatment at the Negambo hospital. The Katunayake police have also arrested three persons in connection to the clash,” SP Jayakody said.

In a separate incident, two students of the same Institute were killed at a railway crossing in Katunayake.

SP Jayakody said the students had no involvement in the clash and had died as a result of ignoring the railway crossing signals. (Daily Mirror online)
