The two soldiers who allegedly carried out the killing of Dr. Prasad Jayasinghe in front of his dispensary in Thalagashandiya, Karandeniya on September 29 were arrested by the Military Police (MP) and were subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

“We have arrested all the suspects involved in the killing of Dr. Jayasinghe. Five men including an informant is in the custody of the CID,” police spokesman Ajith Rohana said.

Last week the CID arrested the main suspect who gave the contract to an Army Captain to carry out the killing.

The owner of the medical laboratory had given the contract to kill the doctor to two other men, who were soldiers, through the Army Captain. They were residents of Meetiyagoda and had fled the area following the incident. The laboratory owner and the Army Captain had been close friends for a long time.

Following his arrest angry crowds set a medical laboratory and a house in the Boraketiya area in Karandeniya. In Elpitiya, the house and a shop owned by the second suspect who is an Army Captain and his family was also set on fire by angry crowds. (Supun Dias)
