The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested two Parliament employees over the alleged Rs. 11 million-fraud at the Parliament Employees’ Thrift Society.

At the Annual General Meeting held on September 17 last year, a new committee was elected.

The elected office bearers had asked for the funds, documents, account files and other relevant documents from the outgoing office bearers, especially from ex-treasurer Pushpakumara Dharmadasa.

However, the main suspect and his accomplices had failed to produce them to the new committee. Dharmadasa who had not reported to work was allegedly absconding without handing over the requested funds and documents.

On suspicion, the new committee lodged a complaint with the CID on October 25 last year. During investigations two members of the Parliament Employees’ Thrift Society were taken into custody. However, the former treasure of the society, Dharmadasa, had fled the country.

They were produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate and remanded till March 7, police said. (Supun Dias)
