Two more budgets defeated

The 2014 budget of the Waththegama Urban Council and Hanguranketha Pradeshiya Sabha were defeated today.

UPFA governed Waththegama Urban Council was defeated with a majority of one vote. The proposals received four votes in favour and five votes against.

Chairman of the Waththegama Urban Council K.C. Liyanage said five UPFA Council members, three United National Party Councilors and an independent councilor are in the Council.

Meanwhile, the 2014 Budget of the Hanguranketha Pradeshiya Sabha was defeated by a majority of five votes.

Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Ranasinghe Dissanayake of the UPFA and seven members voted in favour of the budget while 13 voted against it.

Five UPFA Members of the Pradeshiya Sabha voted against the budget along with the eight United National Party Members.

Dissanayake said seven UPFA Members and an independent member voted in favour while JVP member of the Pradeshiya Sabha abstained from voting.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
