Two Lankans nabbed with gold worth Rs.3.4 mn

Two Sri Lankans were arrested at the Katunayake Airport when attempting to smuggle 699 grams of gold bars and biscuits worth Rs.3.4 million. The contraband was concealed in the handle of their hand luggage.
 
Customs Media Spokesman Leslie Gamini said one of the suspects was a 53-year-old resident of Ragama. He was carrying four pieces of gold slabs weighing 400 grams worth Rs.2 million. The other is a 28-year-old resident of Negombo and he had with him gold bars weighing 299.86 grams worth Rs.1,499,300.
 
Mr. Gamini said the suspects had arrived from Singapore. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
