Two Lankans caught off Kodiyakkarai

The Nagapattinam customs officials in India secured a Sri Lankan duo along with a stolen boat off the coast of Kodiyakkarai on Friday evening.

The apprehended men, who are without appropriate documents belong to Jaffna district in Sri Lanka and they had ventured from the island nation on Wednesday night in a stolen boat without engine. In the preliminary investigation, it is alleged that the duo’s purpose is to visit their relatives at a refugee camp in Madurai.

According to sources, the two Sri Lankan men identified as Sinthadurai (50) and Niranjan (24) both hailing from Valvettithurai in Jaffna district of Sri Lanka had started from Sri Lanka on Wednesday night.

Since the boat had no engine, the duo by paddling the boat had arrived at Manavaaikkal waters five kilometre west off the coast of Kodiyakkarai coast on Friday evening.(Express News Service)
