Two Americans were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the Airport police when they attempted to smuggle a firearm illegally on a flight bound for the United States last night.
The two were caught while attempting to smuggle the dismantled firearm similar to a pistol. The two men who are said to be from the US military were in the country for a holiday, according to police sources.
The police detected the dismantled parts of the pistol on the scanner and immediately arrested the two foreigners.
The suspects have been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigations. (SD)
