The Head Quarters Inspector (HQI) of the Trincomalee police and three  policemen have been suspended pending investigations into the killing of a man in a police raid in Trincomalee.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online, Police Spokesperson Preshantha Jayakody stated that a special team has been appointed by the IGP to investigate the matter.

According to the police, policemen in uniform had visited the house of the victim with a warrant to search the premises.

After there was no answer, one police officer had gone around the house to a window where he had been shot at by the victim, afterwhich the other policemen had stormed into the house and shot the victim.

The victim had apparently not known that it was the police at the door. (Daily Mirror online)
