For the first time, the Education Ministry has decided to train school teachers   to teach foreign languages such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane said today.

The Minister told the Daily Mirror that the first batch of 100 teachers selected for the purpose would be given one-year full time training from January next year.  For that purpose, he said that trainers would be hired from Japan, Korea and China.

“We want to hire natives as trainers. Already, the embassies of those countries have been requested to provide us with trainers. The Ministry will provide them accommodation and other faculties,” he said. (Kelum Bandara)
