Training for newly elected councilors

Local government authorities are planning to provide a proper training for the newly elected councilors of the 65 Local government bodies.

This will include law and procedure of the local government system and the tender procedures and carrying out development programmes, said the Ministry of Local government.

Names of the new councilors will be declared by the election commissioner through a special gazette notification and new term of the local government bodies will commence after one month following the gazette notification.

875 new councilors have been elected for the 65 Local Government bodies by the poll held last weekend.

The compositions of the elected councilors are as follows:

UPFA-512. TNA-183. UNP - 137 , JVP -13, TULF-12 ,Sri Lanka Muslim congress - 07, Citizens Front - 2 , Lanka Sama Samaja Party - 01 and Independent Groups-8. (Asian Tribune)
