Train derailed at Manampitiya

A train which was carrying fuel from Colombo to Batticaloa had derailed in the Manampitiya, Welikanda area at about 9.30 p.m. yesterday.

According to Sri Lanka Railways Department Director Planning, Mr. Wijaya Samarasinghe eight tanks containing fuel derailed and two of them have toppled. As a result of the derailment, the Colombo – Batticaloa train services were cancelled yesterday.

Speaking further he said that a special committee was been appointed by Transport Minister Kumara Welgama to look into the incident. (LP)
