Bernard Goonatillake, Chairperson of both the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and the Tourism Promotion Bureau resigned from his posts today. Mr. Goonatillake had an urgent meeting with his staff today and informed them that he was resigning, sources told Daily Mirror online.

Some staff members, who attended that meeting, told Daily Mirror online, that the impression was given to the staff that he had to resign as he was a political appointee.

When contacted the Tourism Ministry confirmed that Mr. Goonatillake had tendered his resignation but could not divulge the motive behind his resignation and if it was personal or had any political connections. (ER & KA)
