The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today urged people of all communities to hold religious observances in memory of those killed in the war, which ended on May 19.

“Many sacrificed their lives and many more were driven from their homes and a sizable number of people even fled the country, TNA parliamentarian Mavai Senathirajah said today.

Meanwhile TNA parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran said the party would discuss the devolution of power at the next round of talks with the government on June 23.

He said the government had assured it would discuss this issue. “We are keen on having this subject taken up for discussion and positively resolved soon,” he said and accused the government of delaying tactics.

The TNA had also sent a message to newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jeyaram congratulating her on her assuming duties and on the success of the AIADMK at the State Assembly elections. (Daily Mirror online)
