The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has declined to accept the government’s proposal to establish a senate as a substitute for a ‘power devolution arrangement’, the Daily Mirror learns.

During Thursday’s meeting, the government had handed over a note outlining its plan to establish a senate under the present constitution.

The government has laid out two options for the establishment of the senate.  Under the first option, the provincial councils are expected to elect 75 members -three members from 25 districts each. Besides, the President shall nominate 15 members. (KB)
