The TMVP is reportedly split if they are to contest the upcoming general elections under the ruling UPFA ticket or separately. A crucial meeting of the party is currently underway and TMVP sources at the meeting said that the members are split and a vote is likely to be taken tonight to reach a decision.

The meeting which began this morning is being chaired by the TMVP leader and Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan and several senior party officials and members are attending, sources said.

The TMVP source claimed that most members are keen on contesting the general election independently and not under the UPFA ticket while a handful prefer sticking with the government.
