The Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP), which contested the recent General Elections independently and not with the government, will continue to be a constituent party of the UPFA alliance, a TMVP spokesman told Daily Mirror online.

TMVP spokesman Azad Maulana said that although his party had decided to contest alone under its own symbol at the elections there was no rift with the government as a result of the decision.

“We are still part of the government and will continue to be under the UPFA. That has not changed after the election. We only decided to contest alone and that was a party policy decision and was not aimed at creating a rift with the UPFA,” the TMVP spokesman explained.

The TMVP, led by Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, contested from both the North and East at the General Elections but failed to secure a single seat in Parliament. (Daily Mirror online)
