Two LTTE cadres operating from Malaysia and a Sinhalese gangster were remanded by the Colombo Additional Magistrate today for allegedly conspiring to assassinate Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse and other political leaders.

The CID filing a report in court said that they arrested the suspect Jayantha Weerakoon alias Ratnaweera of Weeraketiya, a notorious under world gangster for allegedly having links with LTTE cadres.

The CID said that after his arrest, it was learnt that he conspired with LTTE cadres Selva Mohan and Prabhakaran, both who were residing in Malaysia but who had then arrived in Sri Lanka to assassinate the Defence Secretary and other political leaders.

The CID further said the LTTE hierarchy had hired the Sinhalese gangster from down south in order to facilitate their operations in the South.

On considering the submissions the Magistrate remanded the suspects till September 8.
