Sri Lankan authorities have commenced a new “operation” to counter international LTTE propaganda and other related activities with Tiger proxies now aiming on forming a transnational government for Tamil Eelam, the military said.
Military Spokesperson Major General Prasad Samarasingha told Daily Mirror online that while the war in Sri Lanka has been won, Tiger operations still continue internationally and the government is now taking steps to address that issue as well.
“We have won the war in Sri Lanka but internationally the second phase of the war has started. Not only the forces, but the whole nation, including the people living overseas must get together and stop this international LTTE propaganda and activities. We will have to conduct a separate operation on that which the government has already started,” Major General Samarasingha said.
Meanwhile, the Military Spokesperson said that legal action will be taken against hardcore LTTE cadres who are still in police custody, adding that none of the Tigers are under army detention anymore.
“There are no LTTE cadres under military custody. All the suspects have been handed over to the police. The cadres who are in police custody are hardcore LTTE cadres and the police will take legal action against them,” the Major General said.
The Military Spokesperson added that search operations were also continuing to arrest possible LTTE suspects who had infiltrated into Colombo during the war and several such suspects had already been arrested.
He added that the military had gathered a lot of information after interrogating the arrested suspects.
“Most of the LTTE cadres who have infiltrated into Colombo and other areas have been arrested and we are continuing to conduct search operations. We are getting a lot of information from the arrested suspects,” Major General Samarasingha said.
However he added that the missing LTTE suspects were not a threat to the country anymore. (Daily Mirror online)
