Thunder showers to continue

The Department of Meteorology said today that the country is currently experiencing inter tropical convergence on the south of the Island which resulted in heavy thunder showers during the past two days

However the department said that the ferocity of the showers is expected to decrease during the coming days although showers are expected.

A spokesman for the department said that the inter monsoon condition currently prevalent in the country will result in thunder showers during the afternoon or night. The country would witness temporarily localized fairly strong winds during thunder showers during the coming few days the spokesman said. 

The rain fall during the past 24 hours in certain parts of the country were as follows with Angoda, situated in the Colombo district experiencing the highest rain fall.
