A price increase of Rs. 3 -5 would be imposed per kilometre on the trishaw fares as a result of the petrol price increase, the All Island Three Wheel Owners Association (AITWOA) said.

However the trishaw drivers said they would not increase as they feared losing customers.

AITWOA Chairman Sudhil Jayaruk speaking to Daily Mirror said accordingly, the current trishaw rate, which is at Rs. 35 per kilometer, would be increased up to Rs. 38 – 40 per kilometre.

“The rate of Rs. 40 per kilometre will be maintained in urban and long distance areas while areas while Rs. 38 per kilometre will be maintained in areas with less traffic,” he said while adding however, the stipulated rate of Rs. 50 for the first kilometre has not been revised.

Meanwhile, the All Island Three Wheeler Drivers’ Union (AITDU) however claimed they would not be revising their rates although the petrol prices were increased. (Lakna Paranamanna)
