Three sailors arrested with radio com. sets

Four persons including three Naval ratings were arrested for allegedly robbing Rs.10 million worth radio signal equipment from vessels that had been anchored at the Mutwal fisheries harbour after they were detained by the navy, police said.

These suspects had been stealing the equipment from vessels that were detained by the navy when they were carrying asylum seekers illegally to Australia in recent times.

The suspects were arrested by the Colombo Ports Police following the complaint received from the Rangala Navy camp about missing communication equipment.

Among the suspects are three navy personnel and a civilian and they are to be produced to the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court today.
