Three remanded over preventing Tamil women joining military

The Pudukudiyiruppu Court today remanded three suspects for allegedly threatening and attempting to assault a father who have consented to his two daughters joining the Sri Lanka Army as recruits.

One more suspect in the same team was released on bail by the Court.

An Army  spokesman said that the four suspects on hearing that two daughters of K. Madaswamy of Theravil, Udayarkattu, Pudukudiyiruppu, were volunteering to join the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) as recruits under the ongoing women’s recruitment drive in Nanthikadal, Oddusuddan and Pudukudiyiruppu areas via respective Divisional Secretariats, had threatened to assault the father of those two females on Monday (3) for giving his consent to the daughters to enlist in the Army.

Police maintained that it had already recorded evidence from eye witnesses to the incident to be produced before the Court.  

Pudukudiyiruppu Court, fixing the next hearing for March 10, remanded three of those suspects and released one more on Police bail after the Police produced them before the Court.
