A father, mother and their son have been strangled with pieces of wire allegedly by some gangsters who had broken into their home at Kudahintenna in Halwatura, Bulathsinhala, this monring, police said.

The victims were identified as Manage Idoris (96), Misilin Nona (85) and their son Hector Dharmasiri (60) who is mentally handicapped.
Police said it appeared that the gangsters might have planned to rob their jewellery and other valuables and had killed the occupants fearing the robbers would be identified.

Matugama Additional Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura held the magisterial inquiry and delivered an open verdict.
The bodies were sent to the Nagoda Hospital for the postmortem examination.

Bulathsinhala police are conducting the investigation under the direction of Mathugama ASP Sunil Piyarathna. Police said a wedding ceremony at a nearby house must have prevented the neighbours from hearing any noise.
