Three nabbed with crude jewellery at BIA

Two Lankan women and a girl were arrested while attempting to smuggle unfinished gold jewellery to Chennai this morning by the Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Customs Director and media spokesman Leslie Gamini said

The suspects, residents of Kalubowila, were arrested with 10 unfinished gold bangles and three unfinished necklaces worth Rs. 3,380,000 weighing 676g.
The jewellery was confiscated and Rs.10, 000 penalty imposed for the two women.

Customs officials said that the women had been asked by their travel agent and that investigations would be initiated against the agent. (Chaturanga Pradeep - DM Online)
