Three Lankans arrested with 24 gold slabs

Three Sri Lankans were arrested last night at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) when attempting to smuggle 24 gold slabs worth Rs.12 million out of the country, Customs Media Spokesman G.A. Leslie Gamini said.

He said among the three suspects were two women aged 62 and 34 and a man aged 37. They were residents of Ragama and Kandana.

Mr. Gamini said the suspects were arrested at the BIA departure lounge while awaiting a flight to Mumbai.

The gold slabs weighing 2.4 Kilos were concealed in their shoes. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
